March 30th, PLEIN AIR PAINTING at the Barbados Museum with Tutor Omowale Stuart

Ok, well it started at 9am and finished at 1pm...five hours in the hot sun..but worth every

moment of it.

We chose our spots and set up our easels. Omowale came around and gave each of us

some perspective as to what he expected, asked which medium we were working with (for

us it was watercolour) and why we chose the spot that we did. (Both T and I like the

frontal view of the Museum Shop, mine further back as I liked the path going to the shop,

his closer in as he liked the building detail.

Omowale has an approach that is FREE....he said we were taught or learnt to be controlled

in the use of the medium and emphasized that there is no right or wrong way to paint...it

comes from inside each of us. As far as control was concern, he was fully at the reigns with

our tuition...as he says .." You in MY yard now.." :)

When we wrapped up, he lined up all the paintings from all the artistes and gave us a

general review and critique. All in all we did good. The main problem, some of us were

afraid to put the colour on the board, some of us took too long to get the composition

together and others were so stuck in their control of the media that he commented...."

When you do that (pointing to one piece) that is COLOURING....when you do that (pointing

to another piece) that is EXPRESSION.....

We have to finish the pieces by next week, having taken a snapshot when the time ran

out....but needless to say it was worth every sun blistering, throat parching, ant stinging

moment...

Thank you NCF, Omowale, Carla and Rodney....T and I look forward to our session next

week....

DO NOT LET THE PAST HOLD US BACK FROM THE FUTURE

Blessings friends

Most of us spend and inordinate amount of time thinking and fretting (yes fretting) about what happened yesterday, last year, two months ago....when we were 6.... This in itself may not be a bad thing (the thinking part that is)...but do we really have the time and luxury to fret on it.

Nah! Me no think so!

All I have to say is this...let us use our experiences from the past to inform us of the choices we can make in the future

We may not be able to change the choices we have made but we can now choose to not let them ruin us.

Be positive, move forward and think on this (not fret *wink)

=======================================

A REMINDER

Blessings to all of you.
We are here on this earth for a purpose.
We must treasure the time we have in view.
A wise man once said "If you only knew
how much time you had left and translated it to months
what would you do?"

Truth be told I didn't know
but my intention was to show
that I was going to consider this information anew.

I calculated mine.
With three score and ten being the time,
I possessed two hundred and fifty two.
With this knowledge what should I do?

I pondered long and hard.
I felt troubled with this precious ward.
Then it came to me.
I was to be.
a Keeper of Faith and Blessings be!
A Mother, a Lover, a Friend in need,
A Counselor, a Mentor, yes all of these.

I have been bestowed a gift.
a precious vessel for life.
To keep safe and treasure until my life's breath is taken
and so, I rejoice in my new awakening.

Be true to yourself
and always be kind.
Never, ever forget
that we are given much, but what we don't control
is TIME.

TO CENSOR OR NOT ( on today WORLD POETRY DAY March 21st)

The battles we fight
Many we lose
The cerebellum is the killing field
Left, right, left, right
We plan our attacks
We strategize
Our thoughts, the rank and file

The enemy is on the frontal  hill
Greater in number their infantry still
They block our path with their chemical spill
Are we to let them dictate where we go
Are we to censor and restrain our flow
No, for it is all in the mine…..

Unleash your thoughts
Contemplation rides the wind,
Thermals and breezes of the paths of the mind
Greatness will be found
Empowerment will be the gift
Confidence will be the surprise
Drown your fears in the new birth of our eloquence

Deliver the message to all who would listen
The audience who yearns for nourishment and escape
Carry them there,
Lead them to the fields of variety
Stimulate their minds
In the end they will thank you
In the end they will give kudos
to the uncensored mind
The valiant thoughts bursting through
The meshed web of compartmentalism

Breathe, my friend
Write profusely
Don’t stop
Continue

Ahhhh, they want to listen
They are waiting
For this new source of power
The power of the uncensored mind
The power of the verse

It is nothing less than a Super Power
One that we all have
One that we must all use
One that we must all share
Here it is….
Take it!

Time to sit up and take notice.....

I awoke this morning in excruciating pain. Neck, head, shoulders... I almost thought I was having an episode of some sort.

Tortured dreams didn't help either and no amount of Panadol Ultra was going to fix it. I realized that I had to seek my medicine from my soul....to understand that you cannot control everything and also to realize that (as my Partner always says...Love you T)....

" ...You teach others how to treat you..."

It is only so far that you can take your maternal, instructional, controlling, motherly ways before you start crossing the line and infringing on your children's independence and more importantly, their right to live their lives.

My protective mode needs to take a back seat sometimes, and I need to learn how to observe. ( it is so ironic that I recognize this because as a scientist that is one of the first tools we learn how to perfect).

In almost every blog I speak on how communication is key....it is a two way street...not a one-way projection.

" Physician, heal thyself."

I have realized I need to breathe and release. Others around me need to do the same.  We cannot keep projecting our way of living on others. Yes when we are all one we must be more inter-dependent than independent..that is a give. But we must also realize we must sit back and let others take the wheel sometimes...don't be negative about it....be supportive.

I have had to learn this the hard way....the stressed way...

From this day onward....I will learn to be more patient....and share love and tenderness with those I possibly have pushed away.

We cannot let the past dictate our future...we let the past inform us on how we deal with the present...but people can change.....only if the opportunity is given.

It makes no sense bringig the past into persons' present every time something is not the way we like it...hard fact..but I now realize how true....

So....I tried to express my thoughts in the poem REALIZATION  which I have attached here....

To my loved ones...my children...my soul mate...my colleagues...my friends....I promise to be supportive and caring....understanding and patient.....I have but one heart...and that I am willing to share as the depth of it is unfathomable.

Blessings to all of you.....

I will now have my breakfast and go to work...(yes I know I am late...but better be late and at peace...than rushing and troubled).

----------------------------------

REALIZATION

Fitful dreams do nothing
But nurture the pain, the questioning
Frantic conversation
You, myself and I
Conflict, resolution, deny
Painful decisions of the past
Haunt the path of the future
Drag me deep in the mire
Where youthful eyes plead, beg
Desire
To be lifted, guided to the pasture
Once a child, now the master
Of your fate
Shining white alabaster
Fullness of life
Words you utter to the elder
Fall heavy on the heart of the mother
Truth, be told
Unravels, unfolds
The essence, the purity
Of your soul

A Beautiful Sunrise at Hopefield

I am thoroughly blessed...this is what the morning brings me in my beautiful island of Barbados.
